What This Site Is
DogLicenseLocal is a free informational hub covering dog license requirements, fees, deadlines, and how to apply — organized by state and county. We currently cover Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Virginia in depth, with more states being added regularly.
The site exists because dog licensing information is fragmented across thousands of county government websites, many of which are outdated, hard to navigate, or simply don't exist in a useful form. We aggregate that information, verify it against official sources, and present it in a format that answers the actual questions dog owners have.
How We Research and Verify Data
Every fee, deadline, and procedural detail published on this site is sourced directly from official county or state government websites — county auditor pages, county treasurer portals, state department of agriculture websites, and official state statutes. We do not rely on third-party aggregators or unverified sources for fee data.
Our verification process:
- Primary source: Official county auditor or treasurer website for each county
- Secondary source: State statutes (Ohio Revised Code, Pennsylvania Dog Law, Michigan Compiled Laws, Virginia Code) for legal framework
- Cross-reference: DocuPet and other official county licensing portals where applicable
- Review date: All pages note when data was last reviewed. We update data each December as counties announce new-year fees.
Despite our best efforts, fees and procedures change. County commissioners can adjust fees, deadlines can shift when they fall on weekends, and some counties change their online systems. We always encourage users to verify the current fee with their county directly before submitting payment — which is why every county page and tool includes a direct link to the official county portal.
What This Site Is Not
- Not affiliated with any government agency. DogLicenseLocal is a private informational resource. We are not the county auditor, county treasurer, or any government entity. We cannot accept license payments, issue tags, or look up your license number.
- Not legal advice. If you have received a citation for an unlicensed dog or are facing any legal proceedings related to dog ownership, consult a licensed attorney in your state.
- Not a database. We do not maintain records of individual dog licenses. License lookups must be done through your county's official system.

We do not accept sponsored content, paid placements, or affiliate partnerships. Every county guide, article, and tool recommendation is based solely on editorial judgment and verified data — not paid arrangements.
